There are multiple ways to create the sides of buildings such as using cardinal directions ( North, South, East, West) as well as calculating what direction the building faces the street. There are numerous calculations that the comp(f) function can do, in this case we will stick to the most basic ones: front, back, left, right, top, & bottom. The Component (AKA comp(f)-) function allows the user to select several different aspects of a created shape. These are important first steps when using CityEngine and it should be easier to understand the comp(f) functions I’m about to go over. So far, we’ve discussed the extruding of a building, linking attributes to buildings, and creating shapes using the “extrude” and “roof” commands. I suspect this is one reason why there is a severe lack of CityEngine tutorials available.

FLOOD CITYENGINE MANUALS
Mainly because it’s hard to explain without illustrating, and even then, I’ve still had to consult manuals and forums so that I can at least half-way explain it properly. The truth of the matter is that I have had this particular section in my draft bin for at least 6 months.

It motivates me to continue writing them and I certainly appreciate the shout out that CityEngine gave me on Facebook.īetween more than a few life changing events, I haven’t been able to be as diligent about continuing these tutorials like I should be. Perhaps it’s selfish but I created these tutorials for my personal reference and I am so glad that this blog is being used by people.
